Seminars and Groups
Growing Counseling Services faciliates seminars on sexual abuse, as wells as groups that address sexual abuse/victimization, anger management, and educate people on independent living skills.
The purpose of this group is to educate people on what constitutes abuse, common facts and myths, effects of abuse, process individual experiences, and learn ways of coping more effectively with one's own experience of being victimized. In addition, the overall goal is to assist people with not identifying themselves as victims, but as SURVIVORS. This group is facilitated over the course of 6-8 weeks.
The purpose of the anger managment group is to educate people on learning to cope more effectively with unpleasant feelings, specifically anger. Over the course of approximately 6 weeks, participants are educated on the definition of anger, negative effects of anger, appropriate vs. inappropraite responses to feelings of anger, communication styles, and most importantly, learning EFFECTIVE COPING SKILLS.
Independent Living Skills Group
The Independent Living Skills group is developed to educate participants on important factors and various skills required to live independently. Over the course of 8-10 weeks, participants are educated on the importance of aquiring an education, distinguishing needs vs. wants, how to calculate income and expenses, check writing, emplyoment and housing seeking, and several other skills.
